The history of Fèlsina rediscovered by the Tuscans

On 25 January, we accompanied a group of selected Tuscan journalists and tasters to rediscover the reality of Fèlsina, an iconic Chianti winery and borderland between Chianti Classico and the Crete Senesi.  With Giovanni Poggiali, owner of the winery, agronomist Alessandro Chellini and collaborators Marco Barbi and Chiara Leonini, we took part in a short tour of the Fèlsina vineyards. Located in a profoundly heterogeneous territory, they are capable of producing wines that have written the history of the company, such as Rancia, Fontalloro and Colonia. After a visit to the historic cellar and the vinsantaia, the three labels were then the subject of the tasting, a brief vertical tasting of the 2009 and 2019 vintages, to arrive at the final treat, a small off-program with the Fontalloro 1999, from the winery’s private reserve. The appointment with the Tuscan press was the occasion for an informal and in-depth meeting of Fèlsina, which today has Giovanni Poggiali at its helm and pursues the constant search for authenticity in the vineyard and in the cellar, between nature and technique. The leitmotif of the meeting was Sangiovese, in purity in the three wines: the company was among the first to choose to vinify this symbolic Tuscan vine in purity, to investigate all the nuances it is capable of taking on in this territory.

The life of Amarone in the new Tedeschi Archive

The debut of the Tedeschi wine archive was recently launched at the winery. The organoleptic legacy is now open to collectors, those working in the haute cuisine sector, and wine lovers.  The newly debuted Tedeschi wine archive was opened in a hall that can be accessed by descending a large helical staircase from the entrance floor. This “library” of labels produced across the years tells the story of the enological evolution of Valpolicella and the longevity of the Amarone wine. The hall is a true treasure for collectors from all over the world, a tool to hone the knowledge of specialized workers, and an opportunity for those working in haute cuisine to take the next step in the creation of their wine lists. Within this hall, one can discover the countless faces of the “Tedeschi style” and the effect of time, which is still being explored, on the most iconic wine of Valpolicella.  The archive holds approximately 6,800 bottles of a total of approximately 27,000 bottles of older vintage wines. In addition to tastings, vintage wines from the 2000s are available for sale. Earlier vintages, which are scarcer in quantity, are destined for exclusive vertical tastings.

In Langa to discover the new vintages of ‘Drink Wines not Labels’

In September we accompanied a group of content creators and lifestyle journalists to discover the project signed by Alessandro Salvano in Montelupo Albese. DWNL®, an acronym for Drink Wines, not Labels, is not only the name of the brand but also the manifesto chosen by Alessandro for the wine journey started in 2019. The style is clear from the start: Alessandro wants to interpret his great passion for Burgundy and he does so by vinifying Nebbiolo whole cluster, using only indigenous yeasts, without clarification or filtration and with low amounts of sulfites.  Four years and five vintages later, dwnl® presented new vintages of the classics produced in the Langa and some international contamination: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. An afternoon among the vineyards, which give life to these wines born outside the boundaries, beyond the rules and schemes of the Disciplinaries, culminated with a tasting among the rows at sunset and followed by dinner in Barolo, at Petti’t Bistot, under the imposing walls of the Castle. Here surprise Chef Chef Gabriele Boffa – from the Michelin 1- starred La Locanda del Sant’Uffizio Restaurant in Penango – graced guests with his creations paired with the special selection of wines curated by Salvano. It was a journey where we tried to abandon schemes and preconceptions to let ourselves be carried away by pure wine passion, which does not let itself be influenced by the label.

From Friuli to Venice to discover Vistorta

At the beginning of November, we have accompanied a selected group of lifestyle journalists to discover Vistorta, the company, owned by Brandino Brandolini D’Adda, known for the production of one of the most famous merlots in Italy. The world of Vistorta is varied and ever changing: the roots of the family property can be traced all the way back to the Renaissance but, over the centuries, they have managed to diversify their interests, both inside and outside of the agricultural field, while still honoring their agricultural vocation.
Two days dedicated to discovering architecture and design, starting from the Vistorta Villa: restored to its current splendor in the 1950s and 1960s by Brando Brandolini and his wife Cristiana, the villa’s design shows the involvement of set designer Renzo Mongiardino, while the English Garden was designed by the famous landscape architect Russell Page. After the visit to the cellar in the barchessa, the journalists arrived in Venice, where they had dinner at Naranzaria, the family restaurant overlooking the Canal Grande. The next day there was no shortage of artistic exploration, with a visit to the Duchamp exhibition at the Guggenheim and to Laguna B, the glass factory owned by Marcantonio Brandolini.
