This year’s Icon Award, the contest conceived by Marmomac to choose the stone project that best represents the beauty of natural stone materials and the creative ability of companies involved in The Italian Stone Theatre, was won by project Gerico.

The work, original and harmonic, was designed by Lorenzo Palmieri and produced by Vicentina Marmi in collaboration with Donatoni Macchine. The installation narrates the stone’s “voice”, revealing a great artistic sensitivity and expressing the centrality of human beings. Gerico consists of three marble walls where different colours, materials and textures mix together in a material symphony which also enhances the senses of hearing and touch, becoming alive thanks to the visitor’s intervention, who is called to action and is asked to strike the central gong and caress the walls design.

As Goethe said, “Architecture is frozen music“, yet in this case, human action gives voice to stone and allows it to sing.
