Two events explore how to slow down childhood myopia progression

After the stages held in Milan (December 2024) and during the Myopia Awareness Week in May 2025, EssilorLuxottica continued its commitment to raising awareness on childhood myopia with two new local events in Mestre and Catania.Both initiatives, of high scientific and social value, were designed to promote a culture of visual prevention from early childhood and to present the results of a new Ipsos study focused on the visual habits of Italian families.Specifically, the meetings – hosted at Villa Barbarich in Mestre (October 21) and Isola Catania (October 31) – brought together ophthalmologists, pediatricians, and opticians for a constructive discussion on the risks of the so-called “myopidemia” and the importance of early diagnosis.In particular, among the key topics, speakers explored the technological solutions currently available for managing myopia, including Stellest® lenses featuring H.A.L.T. (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target) technology. This advanced innovation has proven effective in slowing down the progression of myopia in children, offering a concrete and accessible tool for vision professionals.Furthermore, the Ipsos research, conducted on over 1,000 Italian families, revealed that 35% of children are already myopic. However, one in three parents is still unaware of the risks associated with untreated myopia and of the crucial importance of early eye examinations.For both events, Zedcomm managed the entire organization, from venue selection and supplier coordination to press invitations and media relations. As a result, the initiatives achieved remarkable attendance, strong local engagement, and wide visibility across major industry media.Ultimately, through these events, Zedcomm reinforces its long-standing collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, supporting the company in scientific communication and in building a virtuous network among professionals and families — thus promoting a more informed, preventive, and proactive approach to children’s visual health.

The history of Fèlsina rediscovered by the Tuscans

On 25 January, we accompanied a group of selected Tuscan journalists and tasters to rediscover the reality of Fèlsina, an iconic Chianti winery and borderland between Chianti Classico and the Crete Senesi.  With Giovanni Poggiali, owner of the winery, agronomist Alessandro Chellini and collaborators Marco Barbi and Chiara Leonini, we took part in a short tour of the Fèlsina vineyards. Located in a profoundly heterogeneous territory, they are capable of producing wines that have written the history of the company, such as Rancia, Fontalloro and Colonia. After a visit to the historic cellar and the vinsantaia, the three labels were then the subject of the tasting, a brief vertical tasting of the 2009 and 2019 vintages, to arrive at the final treat, a small off-program with the Fontalloro 1999, from the winery’s private reserve. The appointment with the Tuscan press was the occasion for an informal and in-depth meeting of Fèlsina, which today has Giovanni Poggiali at its helm and pursues the constant search for authenticity in the vineyard and in the cellar, between nature and technique. The leitmotif of the meeting was Sangiovese, in purity in the three wines: the company was among the first to choose to vinify this symbolic Tuscan vine in purity, to investigate all the nuances it is capable of taking on in this territory.

Eyewear “shines” in Munich! Part of our eyewear team has just returned from OPTI 2024, the first international trade fair of the year dedicated to the optics, ophthalmology, machinery and lens industry. From January 12 to 14 inside the four halls of the Munich Messe among the 390 exhibitors were our customers such as Blackfin, INVU, Lightbird, Look, MEI System, Nirvan Javan, Safilens, OTTIMI, TPI. The German trade fair is always an important opportunity to present the new products and previews of the year to the Italian and international trade press and to discover the trends proposed by new brands mainly from Northern Europe. For our companies, Germany continues to be an important reference market: according to the latest ANFAO data, it represents the third global market worth about 200 million euros and with a growth trend for prescription frames and sunglasses of 12 percent compared to last year.
