Consorzio Lugana relaunches and doubles down at Wine in Venice

The Consorzio Tutela vino Lugana reconfirmed for the second year its participation in Wine in Venice, the red carpet of Italian wine at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice, which this year took place from January 20 to 23. The Lugana activity comprehended two thematic masterclasses, a private gala dinner and a talk on sustainability. The first masterclass, titled “Lugana, stories of families and generations compared,” took place on Saturday, January 20, and was moderated by Jacopo Cossater: two generations of producers were placed in parallel to witness how each interprets and elaborates specific values, culture, life philosophies and skills in viticulture. On Monday, January 22, the masterclass “Lugana in Venice between wine culture and art treasures” was held. Conducted by Andrea Gori and Professor Gianni Moriani, it dealt with the theme of “wine and art” as an indissoluble pair, in a journey in which the 5 souls of Lugana – Spumante, d’annata, superiore, riserva and late harvest – were paired with paintings and sculptures.

Eyewear “shines” in Munich! Part of our eyewear team has just returned from OPTI 2024, the first international trade fair of the year dedicated to the optics, ophthalmology, machinery and lens industry. From January 12 to 14 inside the four halls of the Munich Messe among the 390 exhibitors were our customers such as Blackfin, INVU, Lightbird, Look, MEI System, Nirvan Javan, Safilens, OTTIMI, TPI. The German trade fair is always an important opportunity to present the new products and previews of the year to the Italian and international trade press and to discover the trends proposed by new brands mainly from Northern Europe. For our companies, Germany continues to be an important reference market: according to the latest ANFAO data, it represents the third global market worth about 200 million euros and with a growth trend for prescription frames and sunglasses of 12 percent compared to last year. In Langa to discover the new vintages of ‘Drink Wines not Labels’

In September we accompanied a group of content creators and lifestyle journalists to discover the project signed by Alessandro Salvano in Montelupo Albese. DWNL®, an acronym for Drink Wines, not Labels, is not only the name of the brand but also the manifesto chosen by Alessandro for the wine journey started in 2019. The style is clear from the start: Alessandro wants to interpret his great passion for Burgundy and he does so by vinifying Nebbiolo whole cluster, using only indigenous yeasts, without clarification or filtration and with low amounts of sulfites.  Four years and five vintages later, dwnl® presented new vintages of the classics produced in the Langa and some international contamination: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. An afternoon among the vineyards, which give life to these wines born outside the boundaries, beyond the rules and schemes of the Disciplinaries, culminated with a tasting among the rows at sunset and followed by dinner in Barolo, at Petti’t Bistot, under the imposing walls of the Castle. Here surprise Chef Chef Gabriele Boffa – from the Michelin 1- starred La Locanda del Sant’Uffizio Restaurant in Penango – graced guests with his creations paired with the special selection of wines curated by Salvano. It was a journey where we tried to abandon schemes and preconceptions to let ourselves be carried away by pure wine passion, which does not let itself be influenced by the label.

Knight Frank among the protagonists of ‘Il Giorno della Casa’ event

On 5 December, Bill Thomson participated as a speaker at ‘Il Giorno della Casa’, an event entirely dedicated to real estate organised in Milan by the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore. In its first edition, the initiative was created to analyse how the residential market is evolving in the post-covid era in Italy’s major cities and beyond. Bill Thomson, as CEO of the Italian network of Knight Frank, a real estate agency with headquarters in London and a network of 487 offices in 53 countries (including 9 offices in Italy) was the only one of the speakers to address the topic of the luxury real estate market. In a dialogue with journalist Paola Dezza, Thomson explained how prime properties remain attractive in Italy for foreign investors, not only in Milan but also in locations such as Venice, Como and Naples.
