Consorzio Lugana relaunches and doubles down at Wine in Venice

The Consorzio Tutela vino Lugana reconfirmed for the second year its participation in Wine in Venice, the red carpet of Italian wine at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice, which this year took place from January 20 to 23. The Lugana activity comprehended two thematic masterclasses, a private gala dinner and a talk on sustainability. The first masterclass, titled “Lugana, stories of families and generations compared,” took place on Saturday, January 20, and was moderated by Jacopo Cossater: two generations of producers were placed in parallel to witness how each interprets and elaborates specific values, culture, life philosophies and skills in viticulture. On Monday, January 22, the masterclass “Lugana in Venice between wine culture and art treasures” was held. Conducted by Andrea Gori and Professor Gianni Moriani, it dealt with the theme of “wine and art” as an indissoluble pair, in a journey in which the 5 souls of Lugana – Spumante, d’annata, superiore, riserva and late harvest – were paired with paintings and sculptures.

In Langa to discover the new vintages of ‘Drink Wines not Labels’

In September we accompanied a group of content creators and lifestyle journalists to discover the project signed by Alessandro Salvano in Montelupo Albese. DWNL®, an acronym for Drink Wines, not Labels, is not only the name of the brand but also the manifesto chosen by Alessandro for the wine journey started in 2019. The style is clear from the start: Alessandro wants to interpret his great passion for Burgundy and he does so by vinifying Nebbiolo whole cluster, using only indigenous yeasts, without clarification or filtration and with low amounts of sulfites.  Four years and five vintages later, dwnl® presented new vintages of the classics produced in the Langa and some international contamination: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. An afternoon among the vineyards, which give life to these wines born outside the boundaries, beyond the rules and schemes of the Disciplinaries, culminated with a tasting among the rows at sunset and followed by dinner in Barolo, at Petti’t Bistot, under the imposing walls of the Castle. Here surprise Chef Chef Gabriele Boffa – from the Michelin 1- starred La Locanda del Sant’Uffizio Restaurant in Penango – graced guests with his creations paired with the special selection of wines curated by Salvano. It was a journey where we tried to abandon schemes and preconceptions to let ourselves be carried away by pure wine passion, which does not let itself be influenced by the label.

Francesca Seralvo a lunch to talk about Tenuta Mazzolino

Francesca Seralvo of Tenuta Mazzolino wanted to create a special occasion to tell her story as a wine entrepreneur and a moment to bring the spotlight onto her new sparkling wine – the Blanc de Blanc Mas Dosè. To achieve this, together we have created a special lunch with an exclusive setting, Casa Fiori Chiari. In a private room on the first floor – between display windows and a table football- Francesca told her story to a small panel of lifestyle and wine journalists: starting with her grandfather’s decision – who choose her among 12 cousins ​as the one who should take the reins of the Held- then how she accepted this prestigious baton from her mother Sandra, then finally how, in 2015, she left her prominent career in the legal profession to dive into this adventure. And now – as a full-time winemaker and a mother of 3 – she has also decided to return to school at the University of Pollenzo, to “study everything I learned on the field”. The intimate atmosphere combined with the classic, yet refined, menu created the ideal setting for the presentation of the new sparkling wine from Tenuta dell’Oltrepò: the Blanc de Blancs Pas Dosè.

A trip to the Langa to discover the new vintages of Drink Wines, Not Labels

The focus of the project is clear from the beginning: Alessandro wants to channel his passion for Burgundy, and does so by vinifying Nebbiolo with a whole bunch fermentation, using exclusively indigenous yeasts, without clarification or filtration and with low quantities of sulphites. Four years and five harvests later, DWNL® presented the new vintages of classic products from the Langa and some international contamination: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. An afternoon in the vineyards that give life to these wines born outside the borders, beyond the rules and schemes of Disciplinari. An experience that reached its high point at sunset, with a special tasting among the rows, followed by a dinner paired with Barolo, at Petti’s Bistrot, under the striking walls of the Castle. Here, Chef Gabriele Boffa – from the 1 Michelin star restaurant La Locanda del Sant’Uffizio in Penango – surprised the guests with his creations, paired with a special selection of wines curated by Salvano. A journey where we tried to forget rules and preconceptions and to let ourselves be carried away by pure winemaking passion, not restricted by the label.
