MIDO an observant look at the world of eyewear

MIDO, the most important global fair dedicated to the world of eyewear, has just closed its doors. According to the data, this 52nd edition was a real success: 40 thousand visitors from 160 Countries around the World. For the Zedcomm team, it was a great challenge: three intense days, filled with thousands of steps between stands and pavilions, many smiles, a little tiredness, but, above all, a lot of contagious enthusiasm. Our satisfaction was also thanks to our customers present at the fair, who chose Milan’s stage as the ideal place to talk about themselves and their latest news. The first day of the fair opened with a press breakfast at the EssilorLuxottica stand, an occasion to talk to trade journalists about the current news in the world of lenses. Image98 celebrated 20 years of the iconic X-Ide brand with a cyber punk-inspired celebratory capsule collection and a high-energy party on Saturday evening. Blackfin, in addition to presenting the new collections, hosted an exclusive event for the press and best clients at the iconic Terrazza Martini, in the heart of Milan. The party was in collaboration with Barberini, a global reference for mineral glass lenses. MEI took the chance to talk about ClearXM, the innovative solution for the automatic cleaning and cosmetic control of cut lenses. At Lightbird, the spotlight was on Light_JOY Collection, where the balance between shapes and colors winks at new generations. NIRVAN JAWAN established itself as the main character of the Academy Area, the sector dedicated to the most creative and research-oriented brands: they used MIDO’s stage to talk about their glasses, emphasizing the mix between worldly cultures and high-quality craftsmanship. Swiss Eyewear Group, in addition to their brand INVITE, who just celebrated its tenth anniversary, brought their new brand designed for gen Z, Ekkiu Eyewear. Look presented the ICONS collection: ten optical models with a contemporary style that represent the essence of the brand. Finally, Tech Print Industries (TPI), a company specialized in the development of technologies for the production of 3D printed glasses, had the opportunity to talk about their projects and collections. This MIDO edition was truly experienced to the fullest by the Zedcomm team, and allowed them to strengthen dialogue with the press and sector stakeholders. See you in 2025, from 8 to 10 February!

Eyewear “shines” in Munich! Part of our eyewear team has just returned from OPTI 2024, the first international trade fair of the year dedicated to the optics, ophthalmology, machinery and lens industry. From January 12 to 14 inside the four halls of the Munich Messe among the 390 exhibitors were our customers such as Blackfin, INVU, Lightbird, Look, MEI System, Nirvan Javan, Safilens, OTTIMI, TPI. The German trade fair is always an important opportunity to present the new products and previews of the year to the Italian and international trade press and to discover the trends proposed by new brands mainly from Northern Europe. For our companies, Germany continues to be an important reference market: according to the latest ANFAO data, it represents the third global market worth about 200 million euros and with a growth trend for prescription frames and sunglasses of 12 percent compared to last year. MEI System opens the doors of its headquarter in Ponte San Pietro (BG) to welcome the trade press!

A global leader in the production of ophthalmic lens cutting machines, MEI System welcomed Italian journalists from the optical trade for the first time at its headquarters in Ponte San Pietro (BG). It was an opportunity to present the company’s beautiful headquarters – inaugurated in 2016 – and soon to be further expanded, its new international branches, and to delve into the company’s activities as well as the machinery presented that have led it to be one of the reference realities on the world scene and industrial excellence of Made in Italy. The day ended with a tour of the production plant. A fast-growing reality that, thanks to the passion of the founders – Stefano Sonzogni and Raffaele Scudeletti – and an important research team has over the years launched on the market innovative machinery with a very high technological rate, for the optics sector for large and small laboratories, thus registering constantly growing results.

Silmo, a fair of excellence dedicated to the eyewear scene

The Salon mondial de l’optique was held from 23 to 26 September 2022

After two challenging years, an air of optimism and business has returned. The Paris Exhibition was attended by 750 exhibitors and 27 thousand visitors from all over the world. The public was able to admire the new eyewear collections, sunglasses and optical frames, new machinery and novelties also in terms of lenses and services. The Team, Zedcomm was present at the event to follow various clients from the eyewear world, organize interviews and meetings with stakeholders and the national and international trade press. Fairs represent an important moment of meeting and dialogue between all the players involved. The following companies were present at the 2022 edition:

Immagine98. The Cadore-based company whose hallmarks are creative flair, the study of shapes and materials and the ability to launch different collections with a strong personality – which presented the new sun and optical collections of its four brands : X-IDE, Rye&Lye, MIC and I-Man. at the stand of ArtMonium, the company’s new French distributor;

KOMONO, the eyewear brand that since 2009 has been the spokesperson for innovation and contemporary design in the world of accessories – watches and eyewear – thanks to its inspiring style, striking colour palette and the FW 2022 collection of optical eyewear, some previews of the new 2023 sunglasses collection and the exclusive collaboration between the brand and Walter Van Beirendonck, the renowed Antwerp-based designer.

LIGHTBIRD, the innovative brand created by the designer Corrado Possono who flew to Paris with the lLight_SOCIAL collection, a real chromatic revolution: a series of new limited edition frames with unique color combinations, made exclusively for LIGHTBIRD, a 100% Made in Italy brand.

23° EYEWEAR, the eyewear brand with a sustainable vision of circular design, debuts at the French fair with its collection of optical frames and sunglasses with an agender aesthetic with pure shapes that recall the geometries found in nature and the superior quality of Barberini mineral lenses, made in four types designed exclusively for this line.

DANSHARAN. “Anima Armena” is the new Dansharian collection, launched in 2022, designed and signed by Alain Miklitarian – the creative genius who revolutionized the concept of eyewear – and produced by DANSHARI, the Made in Japan eyewear brand born from an idea of Giuseppe La Boria who debuted on the market in 2020 with the exclusive The Art of Minimalism collection, made of acetate and pure Japanese titanium, which offers extremely light and flexible frames, with a refined and elegant design.

Alain Miklitarian plays with colors and shapes, echoing the tones of nature and Armenian culture, without compromising on fashion, respecting his own vision and idea of ​​eyewear, with absolute coherence. For this collection, materials and sober colors have been chosen for every day with flashes of color that express the joie de vivre of this wonderful country.

MEI SYSTEM. Founded in 1985 by Stefano Sonzogni and Raffaele Scudeletti, MEI has always been focused on the development of high quality CNC machines. The debut in the optical sector dates back to the 90s, when the company launched Sphera, a milling machine for shaping sun lenses.

But it was at the beginning of 2000 that MEI literally revolutionized the optical market, first introducing the process of shaping ophthalmic lenses by milling. In fact, the company introduces a new technology which allows, unlike the more common grinding, to significantly increase not only the flexibility of the machine (shapes and inclination on the edge impossible to perform with the old grinding wheels) but also its productivity. Not only that: milling, in fact, is suitable for lenses of any organic material and guarantees greater execution speed and stability than grinding. Thanks to this process it is therefore possible to cut any type of lens into complex shapes, with extraordinary results.

LOOK-made in Italy is an eyewear company that has been designing and producing all the frames in its Italian factories for over 40 years. Extreme lightness, essential design and absolute well-being are the founding principles of the philosophy that has characterized the brand since its inception.
