Rosso Morellino 2026: Discovering Coastal Tuscan Sangiovese
Discovering Coastal Tuscan Sangiovese: A Three-Day Journey into the Heart of Morellino di Scansano
An exclusive press tour through the Maremma, exploring the wines, landscapes, and people that define one of Tuscany’s most authentic denominations.
Three days in the heart of the Morellino area. Three days dedicated to discovering Coastal Tuscan Sangiovese through wine, landscapes and the people who shape this territory every day. For Rosso Morellino 2026, the flagship event of the Consorzio Morellino di Scansano, we organized an exclusive press tour for journalists from the wine, travel and lifestyle sectors. The experience offered an in-depth look at one of Tuscany’s most distinctive wine regions, with the goal of telling the authentic story of the Morellino di Scansano denomination.
Exploring the Different Expressions of Coastal Tuscan Sangiovese
Throughout the tour, guests visited wineries, met producers and took part in guided tastings. As a result, they were able to explore the three expressions of Coastal Tuscan Sangiovese represented by Morellino di Scansano DOCG:
-
Morellino di Scansano Annata: the youngest and freshest version, ideal for expressing the typical character of the grape.
-
Morellino di Scansano Riserva: a refined evolution, shaped by longer aging that adds complexity and structure.
-
Morellino di Scansano Superiore: the newest category, recently introduced into the production regulations, representing the highest quality level of the denomination.
Each wine revealed a different interpretation of the territory. However, all shared the same defining characteristics: freshness, balance and a strong connection to the Tuscan coast. Discover more about the types of Morellino di Scansano.
Beyond Wine: Discovering the Morellino Territory
At the same time, the program highlighted the unique landscape of southern Tuscany. In collaboration with Saturnia Bike, participants explored the area through cycling experiences. They rode among rolling hills, vineyards and scenic white roads. Consequently, they gained an authentic perspective on a destination that is becoming increasingly attractive for wine tourism and outdoor travel.
Moreover, gastronomic experiences showcased the connection between Coastal Tuscan Sangiovese and local cuisine, with pairings that enhanced the flavors of the territory. These moments encouraged discussion, discovery and a deeper understanding of the region’s food and wine culture.
A Gala Dinner Celebrating Morellino di Scansano
One of the highlights of Rosso Morellino 2026 was the Gala Dinner hosted at Fattoria Le Pupille. The evening brought together producers, journalists and institutional representatives in a convivial atmosphere. Guests enjoyed walk-around tastings, Morellino-based cocktails and dishes prepared by the renowned Da Caino restaurant. Therefore, the dinner became a valuable opportunity for networking and storytelling, while celebrating the identity of Coastal Tuscan Sangiovese and fostering lasting connections among industry leaders.
Rosso Morellino: A Platform for Relationships and Storytelling
Today, Rosso Morellino is much more than a wine event. Instead, it serves as a platform where producers, journalists and industry professionals can connect in an informal yet highly professional setting. Through direct experiences and meaningful encounters, participants gained a deeper understanding of Coastal Tuscan Sangiovese and the evolution of the Morellino di Scansano denomination. As the region continues to grow in visibility, Rosso Morellino confirms its role as a key opportunity to discover one of Tuscany’s most dynamic and authentic wine territories.
